The word “cloak” implies secrecy, inspiring our concept of a social sphere humming beneath the levels of ordinary life. “Petal” alludes to the Japanese tradition of “hanami,” when family and friends gather under blooming cherry blossoms to savor food, drinks and fellowship.Enter our space and travel underground to décor reminiscent of an abandoned Tokyo subway, a stratum of society all its own, an artist’s dream. Cross the threshold into a mystically transformed Japanese social dining lounge which appears to be an outdoor seating area, similar to a waiting platform. Among my chef friends and the epicurean elites, aka “foodies”, the conversation around great Chinese food was always centered around authenticity, with classic American Chinese takeout dishes not considered authentic. But, having grown up in the Chinese American restaurant my parents have worked at for the past 25 years, I’ve always seen it as a by-product of enormous creativity and ingenuity of Chinese Immigrants.

Inspired by an Italy road-trip Chef Ryan and I (Arturo) took back in 2008, we’re pleased to introduce Catania, the newest member of the Whisknladle Hospitality family. Here, we’ll be featuring simple, seasonal and authentic Italian Coastal Cuisine (None of the Italian version of TexMex you see most other places). Our commitment to authenticity will be evident in our use of wood burning ovens and grills, an all Italian wine list as well as an exclusively craft Italian Beer program. (Yes, Italy has an amazing craft beer movement nobody’s heard about.)

    The Lasagna is the best in town. You won’t be able to finish it because the portion is so generous. All good because leftovers are better due to the seasoning permeating the food overnight.

    We had a wonderful anniversary celebration! The food was fantastic, the nonalcoholic drinks were tasty, and they brought out an ice cream to share with a sparkler in it in celebration of our day. It was very nice, and the service was impeccable! Thank you for a lovely evening!

    Isabella was a great hostess. I requested a standard table and we sat right at the front in a booth. Our server Kevin remembered my dessert order! I tried the corn saccetti and had my favorite - the Tagliatelle alla Portofino. It was divine. Can’t wait to go back!
