Built in 1591, the Tolbooth Tavern in Edinburgh was formerly part of the original Canongate Tolbooth. This medieval building was used to divide the Royal Burgh of Edinburgh and Canongate. It is a cosy traditional Scottish pub full of character and charm. The small exterior gives way to a spacious bar and mezzanine dining area. It boasts a fantastic spot along the Royal Mile. We've been going to this restaurant for several years and always book a table when we are in Edinburgh. The food is locally sourced and imaginatively presented. The wait staff is engaging and makes the experience that much more enjoyable. We will certainly be back!

Superb dinner while my husband and I were in town celebrating our anniversary. The sourdough bread and butter alone were divine, but the wine for us both, venison and potatoes for him, and cod and broccoli for me, were delicious and beautifully prepared. Wonderful, unique flavors. We had raspberry butter cake with honey ice cream for dessert, which was a perfect ending to a lovely evening with impeccable service. Thank you!
