The 2023 winner of the James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar, Bar Leather Apron was founded in 2015 by the duo of Justin and Tom Park. Inspired by cocktail bars in Japan, B.L.A. is an intimate cocktail bar tucked away on a mezzanine in the lobby of an office building in Downtown Honolulu. Make no mistake, although minutes from Waikiki, you will not find artificially flavored Mai Tais at this Hawai'i bar...     Basalt was excellent. We had the sweetest server Victoria. They had written Happy 70th Birthday on my friend’s menu. We started off with delicious crab cakes. My friend had a salad with fittle heads from ferns grown in Manoa. I had a house salad. I had some of the fittle head salad and it was delicious. We had swordfish with faro and a variety of vegetables and salmon with risotto which was delicious. They served my friend a layered chocolate hazelnut cake with a chocolate Happy Birthday wafer. We also ordered the Mochi brownie. The meal and service were excellent.

    Bartenders were all super nice and friendly! They let us know about each ingredient. A really fun experience. Would recommend sitting at the bar counter.

    Everything from my reservation, to my special requests was flawless and exceptional. Server High praise to Chris (pardon me if I misspelled his name) who was spot on, knowledgeable, accessible & accommodating without seeming to be pushy or aggressive. Would love to have him as a server again.
