Priding ourselves on our motto ‘Famous for fish’ Smiths Restaurants is a name that has become synonymous with fine dining and quality, attentive service. Our restaurants are located in Ongar Essex (just off the A414) and Wapping in central London (near Tower Bridge). Both restaurants boast an extensive menu of fresh fish that we offer to cook in a variety of ways to suit every palette. We also offer locally sourced meat dishes to accommodate those who prefer their food terra firma. To compliment the quality of our food we have worked closely with well renowned independent wine merchants to ensure we have a selection of wines that are the perfect accompaniment to every meal. The Punch Bowl is a 17th century newly refurbished restaurant and pub located in the heart of rural Essex and the Crouch Valley and South Essex salt marshes. Chef Patron Rob and Front of House Manager Sally run a Two AA Rosette-rated restaurant, offering a nose-to-tail style menu with unpretentious dishes that focus on flavour. Everything is made in house - from bread to mayonnaise, and we use local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Our menu changes daily as the season's best comes in. The menu will always feature day-boat fish, meat, offal, rare breed steaks and excellent vegetarian cookery. We offer two or three roasts on a Sunday and hold regular exciting food events which showcase classic cookery and intriguing ingredients.Our beautiful garden bar has a lawn and York-stone patio looking out across the farmland of Paglesham and the River Crouch. Throughout the summer we offer BBQ dining and live music to entertain while the sun shines.

Revisited Smiths after many years. Very nice experience. It was for my birthday and it was fantastic. My husband and I enjoyed a great meal, food cooked so well and the welcome from the staff excellent. We were served by Jess who is one of the managers, she just happened to be waiting tables last evening. What a lovely lady, professional but approachable and friendly. Our food was some of the best we have had and we frequent many good restaurants. The fish i had was perfect, beautiful skate middle and vegetables on the side were delicious. We will definitely be going to Smiths again soon.

The nicest bar in Cambridge, a little gem tucked away, not far from the station but also near enough to walk from the city centre. Friendly service, classy, quiet ambience. They have an extensive wine and champagne list, reasonably priced. A nice selection of snacks and small bites too. After years of visiting Cambridge this bar is now our ‘go to’ drinks venue.
