We are a cosy, modern bar serving a selection of fine wines, whiskies and a creative cocktail menu. We serve food daily- small plates, sliders and pub classics. We have been voted Edinburghs Best Bar and Restaurant 2024 and 2025.We unfortunately do not have a license for children under 5 years old.We unfortunately do not have suitable wheelchair access or accessible friendly toilets.

Built in 1591, the Tolbooth Tavern in Edinburgh was formerly part of the original Canongate Tolbooth. This medieval building was used to divide the Royal Burgh of Edinburgh and Canongate. It is a cosy traditional Scottish pub full of character and charm. The small exterior gives way to a spacious bar and mezzanine dining area. It boasts a fantastic spot along the Royal Mile. Serving hearty home-cooked Scottish fayre using locally sourced produce, we're sure to keep you full before a full day on the tourist trail, or join us for an evening exploring our fine whisky collection.House favourites include Cullen skink, Tolbooth burgers, freshly landed Scottish fish n chips and our Tolbooth steak & sausage pie.If you want to embrace dark history and immerse yourself in a spooky atmosphere, The Tolbooth Tavern is a must visit whilst in Edinburgh.Open daily from 11am for drinks. The Cumberland Bar serves Scottish food, real ale, classic wine and spirits in Edinburgh’s New Town. It takes about 15 minutes to reach its location at 1-3 Cumberland Street on foot from Waverley Station. Edinburgh Castle is about a 10 minute drive away from its premises and Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre can be reached within a 10 minute walk. The restaurant uses fresh and organically sourced ingredients to prepare its food including several traditional Scottish recipes are served with a modern flair.
