Bacalar is a neighborhood restaurant inspired by the Yucatan Peninsula region of Mexico. Located on Lady Bird Lake in Austin’s Rainey Street Historic District, the restaurant was created by Bravo Top Chef Winner, Chef/Partner Gabe Erales and the team at Urbanspace Hospitality. Our thoughtfully-designed space is an immersive experience inspired by nature, accompanied by a menu that highlights the nuances of the diverse global influences of the Yucatan region. We welcome you and your family of all ages for a relaxed and fun dining experience of unique Mexican flavors. Our covered patio encompasses views of the newly renovated Lady Bird Lake trail activation directly across from the restaurant.

Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcomed any day of the week (closed Mondays).

    - A native of Yucatán, Wilson Alonzo is the driving force behind the Yucatecan regional cooking workshop at the Technological University of the West in Maxcanú. Currently, he is developing the Ya’axche Ethnogastronomic Complex in the municipality of Halachó. Chef Wilson Alonzo undertakes academic journeys across the country to promote Yucatán cuisine through workshops and conferences in cities like Paris, London, Madrid, and Barcelona. - Cocktail specials and wine pairing available.     Una de las mejores experiencias que he tenido en comida yucateca, los platillos de sabor insuperable, sobre todo los de cordero, el lugar es hermoso y muy bien atendido. Los precios me parecieron muy altos para lo que recibes, aún así por el sabor de la comida regresaré.

    Dinner at Bacalar was absolutely amazing! The ambiance and decor is stunning and the food was absolutely delicious. The Sikil Pak is a must, the red snapper ceviche was one of my favorite bites of the evening. We also had the cochinita Pibil, the 32 oz ribeye, pork belly, and the scallop and bluefin crudo. Food was 10/10, the service and hospitality even better. A very memorable meal. Highly recommend. We had such a good time no one remember to take photos.

    I love the vibe here! We sat in the lounge upstairs for the first time - a much cozier vibe than downstairs. All the margs are fantastic. Especially enjoy the snacks and shareable. Don’t miss the cochinita pibil.

    Amazing service and recommendations on food and drinks. Would love to come back again. Price is a little steep, but when you walk in, try the food, the drinks, and experience the service and ambience. You'll understand why. I just moved into the condo next to it and definitely will be coming back.

    Attending the Masa Series Vol. 6 dinner event was an extraordinary experience for Pete and me. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of elegance and anticipation. The beautifully arranged flowers and the warm candlelight set a perfect ambiance for what would be a memorable evening. The five-course meal, meticulously curated by Chef Kaelin Ulrich Trilling, was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was a masterpiece, blending traditional flavors with innovative techniques that left us in awe. Each dish was presented with an accompanying gift that represented the meal, adding a unique and thoughtful touch to the dining experience. These keepsakes not only served as a reminder of the incredible flavors but also of the cultural richness behind each dish. We shared the evening with our neighboring table guests, Lizette and Greg, who celebrated his birthday, adding to the joyous atmosphere. Their presence, along with the delightful food, made for an unforgettable celebration. We were truly blown away by every taste and texture, and we cannot wait to attend another series. This event has set a high standard for dining experiences, blending exceptional cuisine with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Thanks, Chef Gabe, GM Jose, & the entire team for making this evening so special.

    Bacalar was a wonderful night out. Started with the Hiramasa Aguachile (Melon Ceviche) which was very refreshing. Next was the Barbacoa Tamal, which couldn't better. So tender. We finished the meal with Green Beans and Conchita Pibil (Pork Shoulder) which we were told was a signature dish, and it delivered.

    Amazing food! The bartender (wish I could remember his name) was great and very patient explaining the menu. We had the dumplings, lamb fritter, Tamil, and the shredded pork and crispy pork entrée. Every dish was better than the one before.Espresso martini and the Mexican old fashioned were both incredible. Perfect date night spot.
