I'll be honest, I had high expectations for this place, but for the price, there were several aspects that lacked attention. Normally, I don’t focus on low-rated reviews, thinking they might be overly critical, but after my experience, they seem spot on. Most of the dishes tasted good, especially the first three, and the bento box had some great fish. However, the fourth dish (rice and snapper) and the dessert (a simple plate of fruit) felt like throw aways. The rice dish had no seasoning, and I was genuinely puzzled as to why a former NYC executive chef—someone often invited to cook at various events around the world (what he had mentioned to us)—would serve just fruit as a dessert (he had not done anything but cut it up for us). For the price, I don’t think anyone would expect this. Beyond the food, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable. It was just the three of us and the chef, who hadn’t prepped anything before we arrived. The restaurant itself had no decor and looked like he used much of it as storage. While the chef was kind to my parents and myself, I feel like we were duped. Maybe he thought since we weren’t “foodies” or that we were some unimportant Americans that he didn’t need to put in much effort? I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I believe it’s important to be honest—especially given the high price point. I wouldn’t want others to have the same disappointing experience. Wow! What a meal, one of the best meals i ate on my 2 week trip to Japan. Chef Dan was great, he is from the USA but trained in Japan, and every dish was to die for! It was so nice to be able to enjoy a meal I also saw prepared, and share it with good company. Will return to kyoto in the future and see chef Dan again!

This was a meal and experience of a lifetime! If you had to go to one restaurant in Japan, visit Chef Dan at Another C. With only 8 people served a day, this experience was beyond unique and special. Chef Dan created each small dish right in front of us from start to finish. He buys the ingredients that day and cooked for us as if we are friends over for dinner in his home. Each dish was melt-in-your-mouth good. Love the whole experience and made friends with the fellow diners too! 5 star, could not recommend this intimate unique experience more!

One of the best meals we had in our trip on Japan. The experience of being at the chef's table and having him explain the ingredients, inspiration and flavors was quite something. The wine pairing was also really good. We dinned with our two kids, our 8 year old tried every single meal but our 5 year old ate only about half of the dishes. We highly recommend, specially for adults celebrating a special occasion or trying to have a different dinning experience.
