Chef Roger Shakes previously head chef at ‘Mango Room’ in Camden Town where he cooked for stars, heavyweights and luminaries from around the globe.Originally from Westmoreland, Jamaica, Roger came to London in 1999 where his first employment in a restaurant was washing plates. Learning from the chefs around him and combining this with the culinary skills passed down from his grandparents, he soon realised his talent for food and the joy of feeding others. Rising to become head chef at ‘Mango Rooms’ he has spent decades perfecting Jamaican classics such as Curry Goat and Jerk Chicken which now sit alongside new favourites such as his special Pork Ribs and vibrant Vegan Curry. Over the years he has enchanted a loyal following with his easy-going charm and authentic Jamaican flavours. Striking out on his own with ‘Roger’s Kitchen’ he hopes to bring Caribbean food to a new audience with passion and panache.

“A stones throw away from Dalston Kingsland Station you will find The Dalston Jazz Bar. It’s a full on restaurant up until 10 PM. They serve an array of fresh seafood as well as yummy beer from a local brewery and cocktails. The live band plays throughout the night with a few breaks. On Fridays and Saturdays, after 10 PM, they clear all tables and chairs to create a dance floor and this place then really starts to rock! We don't do vegan or vegetarian food. We specialise in fish.Please note: We do not have vegetarian food.

    Last night we had a mini date as husband and wife. I had been to this place in the past when Roger was head chef and it was great then, so I was looking forward to it now that he has taken over. Oh my, the food is top level; it was the first time my husband has been and he enjoyed himself so much. The food is AMAZING!!

    Dalston Jazz Bar is a fantastic find. The night we went the Jazz Quartet was playing a range of standards and were really professional and high quality. The food was a revelation - 5 course fish menu at a set price and a range of delicious desserts. Each course was a delight, really fresh produce and beautifully prepared and cooked. The service was friendly and professional and the overall ambience was great. For a meal of this quality and quantity £40 pp was fantastic value. Where I live (on the Isle of Skye) a meal like this would cost a minimum of £100pp. I unhesitatingly recommend a visit to this excellent establishment.
